2006 PYC Alumni Recognition - Gordon & Betty Chapin
by Brook Smith

The Chapin family began racing at Portage Lake in 1969. They started with IL 173, which sported a wooden mast, but within a year they went high-tech and acquired a new boat. No member of the club has been more willing to give of themselves to help our program than Gordon and Betty. Gordon has done it all, helping out with Quartermaster Duties, serving as Commodore, and Betty was for years and years our “go to” score keeper. During the years when we had 40 and 50 boats registered to race on the weekends, Betty served as score keeper for race after race. I am quite convinced that the overall quality of our club-level race management took quite a hit when we lost Betty’s quiet voice of help and re-assurance on the RM boat. For 37 years of participation, please recognize Gordon and Betty Chapin.
