Ib and Kirsten also began racing here at Portage Lake in 1969. That was 10 years before I first tried sailboat racing, but I am told that the Bentzen-Bilkvists first racing was done in a “nasty” Rebel, but they soon learned the error of that choice and in the quest for a faster vessel, purchased Tom Ehman, Jr’s Flying Scot. Ib has served our club and the sport of racing in many, many ways. He has, of course, been our Commodore, he was a principal organizer of the Flying Scot North Americans when they were held at the Royal Hamilton Yacht Club in Ontario and in countless other ways he has helped our Club over the years. His service pales, when compared to the job done by Kirsten who continues to serve as the Huron Portage Yacht Club Treasurer, a post that she has I think held forever (or at least as long as I can remember.) Ib and Kirsten!
