2007 SEASON SUMMARY HOME GOLD & SILVER RACING

RESULTS: FLYING SCOT INTERLAKE LASER MC SCOW SUNFISH

Gold and Silver Racing Competition Best in Years

2007 may be remembered by some of the closest, if not the closest, races in the club’s history. The Gold series came down to the last weekend with Brook Smith leading Bill O’Donnel by a mere 0.14. As Brook so aptly pointed out at the annual dinner, thanks to the wonderful people at Ford for having Bill's crew Brian take a business trip over-seas (his first in years) Bill was forced into using an unfamiliar crew Jerry Best (who hadn’t ever sailed with Bill) which seemed to give Brook the edge and thus the championship.

The Silver series provided the best competition of the year in both the small and large boat. On Tuesday nights in the singlehanded series, the Sunfish fleet saw its two able-bodied veterans Bob Reed and Raeburn Howland duking it out to the last week with Bob besting Raeburn in the end for the series championship. The Laser fleet saw Steve Wiseman once again take the championship, though his competitors are starting turn up the heat.

Prior to the last Thursday night race, the Interlake fleet had four boats (Ehman, Cathey, Smith & Chapin) all within one point of one another. With some shifty, patchy, very light air Tyler snatched the last race to the dismay of Tom who had lead all but the final leg of the seven leg race. Adding insult to injury for #1318 was Brook came from last to third with most of his gains on the last leg. Unfortunately the last scheduled race was cancelled due to a lack or air which didn’t give the other competitors one more crack at Tyler at winning the championship.

The Flying Scot fleet saw a heated summer series end with fractions of a point separating Wagner 10.25, Davis 10.42 and Hawkins 10.46. They, like the top Interlake sailors were very disappointed with the cancellation of the final race. It should be noted that two of the three decided to go out in mirror like conditions anyway that evening to prove to the committee errored in not racing. There is no truth to the rumor that it was the weekend before they returned.
